These always work in my experience, and can be done at a wide variety of places. The next time you see an unsuspecting friend or foe playing this game, butt in by asking if you could try it too, just for a little bit, and then cleverly sabotage his progress by doing one of these tricks!

Disclaimer: you probably shouldn't, though. I won't take responsibility for mental or physical hazard that might follow these stunts.

I: Tesla Rifle (maybe attack rifle too). Shoot, and enter menu at the precise moment when the flare is completely visible. Change costume. Voila!

II: Find a place where you can 'Use' an item from inventory (locked doors, puzzles, etc.)... Go to menu, and change your costume before 'Using' the correct item. But quickly afterwards, before you see item usage message, re-enter menu and try to use another object. Leave menu. Voila!

III: Find an unlockable door behind which a cutscene begins. Go to menu, change costume and then 'Use' the key. Then tap 'X' so that you manually use the key before game automatically uses the key for you. If the next cutscene is an in-game cutscene, the game crashes. If not (like on this vid), find an in-game cutscene somewhere. Voila!
