From the critically acclaimed film about mountain top removal - second trailer for the award-winning documentary Black Diamonds: Mountaintop Removal & The Fight for Coalfield Justice Produced and Directed by WV native Catherine Pancake.
...there's a good chance, if the Feds should ever default on the tax-funded US- debt... which becomes more likely w/every passin' day now in 2011..., the Govts' creditors'll end up owning the mineral-rights to these here mountains... and many more mountains and valleys across this continent. To the administrations' tax-money grubbers: This is merely the Fed Reserves'/UNs' acceptable collateral against these outrageous & irresponsible debts... To the US citizen: It'll be the Chinese Peoples Coal!
I understand that those of us who live in the Appalachia Mtns I mean the natives not the transplanted yuppies, know just how it is to find good work & I truly understand coalminers defending their positions.
We really need to ban together as a nation & say enough is enough yes I want electricity but let's use our tax dollars to find it & now before it's to late!
I'd bet that big coal mine executive interviewed in the big high rise bldg. for this documentary doesn't have a mountain top removal disaster going on anywhere near his home!! It's like larsinla said below...it's not over until there's no more coal to be had.
Will this mean when they complete MTR on all of the old existing traditional mine sites that they'll start blowing the tops off the remaining mountains that had not been mined in the past to search for coal there too?
What's next on their agenda? It could be stopped by the heads of each state & our government, but there's too much money in it for THEM. That's all there is to it. They don't mind putting the old time miners out of work in the name of progress. Where will these miners find work?
Surely MTR procedures don't employ as many as the traditional method of mining coal or it wouldn't be such a great idea??!! Shame on all who have allowed this to happen! The only peace I have about the whole thing is that we are promised that Earth will l be recreated when the Good Lord returns. May God have mercy on these mens souls!
Do you know how many people DIED mining coal the old way. It wasn't one or two a year, like we have now...it was one or two out of every 4 or 5. If death is a better way, you can have it...it wont be on my hands.
