Gary Swart has 16 years in the software industry, and has held sales, operations and executive positions at startups and leading global enterprises. Currently Gary is the CEO of oDesk, a global marketplace that lets employers hire, manage, and pay world class technical talent at globally competitive rates. Prior to oDesk, Gary was COO at Intellibank, a provider of on-demand contact and document management solutions. Prior to Intellibank, Gary lead the SMB Division for IBM, Rational Software Products. IBM acquired Rational in 2003. He joined Rational in April 1997 via the acquisition of Pure Atria, where he was Director of Corporate Sales. Gary has spent most of his career in operational roles and ensuring customer results through effective solution selling of products and implementation services. American based employers should still have to pay minimum wage....even to overseas employees. It cheapens the industry and hurts developers and designers here at home.

actually odesk now has many cheap employers , we cant continue like this and allow very low rates like $3/h !!!

I hope odesk do something in between with quality and low cost not cheap or almost free work.

Hey guys, what all this is about?

If America doesn't want to outsource their "pretty" jobs to contractors from other countries - no problems! Let them "cook their American popconrn" for 100$/h :)

Now oDesk contains a huge number of projects from Europe, Asia, Australia, Canada and other places worldwide, because of:

1. Daily growing market pull on IT projects;

2. Millions of freelancers, that are ready to work worldwide;

3. oDesk itself - the great, well managed freelance marketplace.
