I got this car used and didn't know how to do anything on it. There were no videos on how to do this stuff so here you go.

  • @the4stringking23. Right but it's really not that difficult to remove it and it is very helpful for it to be out of the way while working. Also there's a greater chane of scratching it or losing something if you leave it on.

  • I'm planning on splicing it.

  • The 05 to current models the interior is pretty similar. And thank you

  • has anyone done this with the harmon kardon system. does the auxilary cord that comes ran to the center console remain functional after swaping head units?

  • Thanks for the geat video! I've been searching and this is the best I've found so far for a legacy

  • For more information on how to replace the stereo, especially for those of you with automatic climate controls, search the Legacy board (legacygt dot com) for "official-dual-hvac-double-din-jdm-kit-thread":

  • hey guys i have an 05 outback dash and setup is the same as this and i was looking into buying a new head unit, basically there is no cheap fix that will get you aircon etc aswell unless you can find a macentosh i think its called which is the same as this but found on the top model versions, same unit but with rca ports for amps. Otherwise you need a line down or an amp that you can attach the speaker wise straight up such as an alpine mrx v60

  • Got the same exact car :D thanks for detailed instructions!

  • This is definitely the best I have seen and most detailed. Toward the end the voice got a little quiet, so I'll have to listen again, but it is a very good video.

  • You don't have to remove the shift knob, you can just let the plastic cover hang. Not as convenient but a whole lot easier

  • Great Video, also found photo's of someone who took the unit apart. Basically bottom line is you cannot replace this unit. However I assume that one could install a standard stereo above the main facia where some models have the Nav unit. Then I guess you just need to take the wires out of the in-built stereo and run these to the new unit with a ISO adaptor cable. Anyone done this?
