in jamaica during colonization most of the tainos were killed .however we still incorperate their practices especially their food. in jamaica many inter-mixed with the africans, so unfortunately we do not have pure tainos. despite that, its apart of our culture that we love and embrace and the story of the arawak indians/ tainos are taught in school till this day. in jamaica we will never forget the arawaks.

All i hear is the Tainos, But what about the Caribes? who were fearsome people and even columbus fear them. The Caribes practiced cannibalism and use to hunt down the tainos. I would like to hear something about them.

For the love of god.....CAN YOU GUYS ACKNOWLEDGE THAT PUERTO RICANS ARE NOT THE ONLY TAINOS AROUND. THEY CAME FROM DOMINICAN REPUBLIC AS WELL. Christopher Columbus first invaded the land of Espanola, which is now called Dominican Republic.

Why are people insisting that the Taino's are dead because there are no pure blood Taino's left and most of our culture was lost?
The fact is our mothers were raped our fathers were killed and we were forced to assimilate Spanish customs. Then we were further exploited by the U.S. for sugar production, military support, strategic naval position etc.
