Amazing to hear the pianism as von sauer, a descendant of Liszt. Can't get much closer than that.

Although he's called a pupil of Liszt, he only studied with Liszt on masterclasses in 1884 and 1885, and he did not consider himself a pupil of Liszt. He was allready a great pianist and said that the old Liszt had little to teach him. He allways said his real teacher was Nicholas Rubinstein.

Se Sauer, cui non mancava certo una tecnica strepitosa (vedi le sue registrazioni dei suoi stessi studi) ha interpretato questo studio in questo modo, puoi stare tranquillo che lo avrà sentito direttamente da Liszt suonato così.

Thanks - the Paganini etudes were also subtitled "of transcendental execution" in their penultimate form, and I have got this mixed up! Corrected now.
Many of these early pianists cut sections of pieces. Often to accommodate works on the short playing sides of 78 rpm discs, but sometimes just from habit it seems!
