  • Nice photos but more detail on tools and materials would be helpful.

  • thanks!

I used the cizel to take the frets, then filled in the grooves of the frets with oak strip of 0.6 mm and glued with wood glue, white glue, cut the ribbon edges with the chisel and smoothed with sandpaper. The end with a cotton towel to brighten a little.

    and it's done.

  • was there any problems with the bass afterwards?

  • @hupfeld63 no, there was no problem at all.

    Why?

  • i just order this bass. What do you think about it. Did you had any broblems?

  • hello, sorry to be responding just now! the bass has a great sound because it has a wide body, and when connected to an even better P.A. , tends to

    feedback to the low frequency

when connected, for so try to keep the monitors to the side and not very high.

    Unplugged its beautiful !

  • Isn't the action too high after removing the frets?

  • @Pchychopathetic I've just marked them with Tipex (like a boss), and besides I'm not really worried with how it looks. I've been using it fretless and it seems to sound fine with the gaps. Thanks anyway. :)

  • @VincentBrooke1

how will u paint inside the gaps? It wont look nice if u dont cover it somehow (in my opinion)

  • Sorry if this is a dumb question but is it necessary to put the lil pieces of wood in where the frets were? I'm about to defret my acoustic bass and I was planning to just paint the fret spaces in. :/

  • Thanks. I recently defretted a very cheap baritone uke as practice. I've found that no one sells a lefty acoustic bass without frets, so I will have to defret the one I'm getting for my friend's birthday. Can you find the oak strips at a hardware store?

  • be sure to use Gramma's rusty paint scrapper

  • great bass very nice sound...never had big problems with it...check out our channel and you can hear how it sounds in a 2 man combo ;)

  • Hi guys, before defretting: Check the material of the (existing) fingerboard.

Mostly, fretted guitars do have too soft (and cheap) types of wood.

    Bear that in mind!

A worn out fingerboard doesn´t matter, if youre lucky to have frets.

Smooth fingerboards are destroyed in a short time - even using round-wound bass-strings.

I destroyed a Jazz-Bass replica - not knowing, that the fingerboard was too soft...

    However: A good Vid! :-))
