  • I succeeded by getting OUT of AA. Three years without a drink.

  • @iamzeronothing said "But most ALL those I've seen who DON'T do what's in that book, keep drinking."

That's because you stay in AA. In SMARTRecovery, our rooms are full of ex-AA members who are happy and sober. You don't see us because we don't go to AA any more.

AA has a 95% dropout rate in the first year alone. That's according to their own Triennial Report statistics.

SMART has a much higher success rate, and people smile a lot more in our meetings.

  • Penn and Teller are ENTERTAINERS whos job is to get rattings. Attacking AA is a great way to do that.I and many friends are sober with the help of AA. AA works just fine....

  • We need to stop talking in definitives regarding alcoholism . I have done the AA thing and without it i would not have been introduced to the philosophical ( morality ethics and empiricism ) approach to tackling whats wrong with me . That works for me - whatever AA offers does not . BUT THATS ME . I do not prescribe . Alcohol is the solution not the problem . If you solve the problem you will not need the solution if you dont you will . My problem with AA is that it does not seek to evolve

  • The NIAAA’s 2001–2002 National Epidemiologic Survey on Alcohol and Related Conditions (NESARC), which surveyed 43,000 Americans, indicated that 75% of those who attained long-term sobriety after alcohol dependence did it without treatment of any kind or attending any kind of support group. Ruminate on that: 75%. No AA, no treatment at all.

  • Moderation people, solves everything
