Hi. I'm Delegate Kirill Reznik. Welcome to the first of what, like last year, will be a weekly video blog updating you on what is going on here in Annapolis throughout the 2010 General Assembly Legislative Session.

As I am sure you are well aware, the state of Maryland has not been immune from the difficult economic times we are all facing. With a $2 billion budget deficit looming, difficult decisions will need to be made about what are our states true priorities. The easiest cuts to the budget were made sometime ago.

Even with the budget issues hovering over this session, I am still very excited for the many opportunities we will have to improve the lives of people in the State of Maryland, Montgomery County and District 39.

For example, we are incredibly proud of once again being named the best public school system in the country, and I look forward to working to continue this high standard we have set for our students.

Some of the major issues we will be focusing on are to continue to expand healthcare coverage to everyone in the State. Once new healthcare legislation is passed by the federal government, we will be looking into how it will affect our state and what actions we need to take as a state government as a result.

Another issue we will be looking at is the growing problem of gangs in our schools. We will also be focusing on creating more jobs and job opportunities here in Maryland so that we can get our citizens back to work.

For my part, I have plans to sponsor a number of pieces of legislation to help improve our ability to live, work, and raise our families here in Maryland.

As I introduce each bill I will use these video blogs to give you more information about each bill and what it will do.
For now, Ill just take a moment to give you a preview of some of my top priorities for the session.

Staying with our states focus on creating more job opportunities, I will introduce legislation to help those in our community who are struggling the most during these tough times to find employment, by making it unlawful for employers to use someones credit history against them in hiring and retention decisions.

Other legislation I will be focusing on this session are two issues that I will bring back from last year and are near and dear to my heart. The first is my autism insurance coverage bill meant to help families dealing with the enormous challenge of raising a child with autism.
The other is legislation making a state constitutional amendment to allow for Election Day Voter Registration

As always, I am here to serve my constituents in District 39 and I urge you to contact me if you have questions, concerns, or need to my help in dealing with a community issue.

Thank you for tuning in and I look forward to briefing you again next week.
