By all means read his works if you want to know the man, but read it as you would poetry or literature. Most people are surprised by his writings because they usually expect something overtly satanic or awful...and find these things about yoga and concentration exercises and this idea of "the Great Work"...which could mean anything. Sure...some of Crowley's things are fearsome and explicit and even could be considered blasphemous...but for the most part one will probably yawn these days!

crowley surely was very talented in bad stuffs that some satanic devil helped him write the book of law, crowley was dipped in sins which he loved and considered honorable to him ----but what is bad remains bad even though you are good at it----so for me he was an evil man------------ and evil persons dont deserve praises rather lamentations and curses.
