On January 17, 1994 California's San Fernando Valley was hit by a powerful earthquake measuring 6.7 on the Richter Scale. My wife, Alexia and I felt as though our little house was breaking apart - and WE were in Van Nuys, 2 miles from the epicenter! The next day we took an auto tour of the damage throughout the Valley. This video was shot with a HI-8 camera from the front seat of our Land Cruiser. The SAME Land Cruiser seen at 1:20 in this TV show: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEyDJPiKeMg

  • Really enjoyed this footage. The music is powerful and fitting of the images you captured. Well done !!

  • the wherehouse store @ 4:27; is that the location that was on reseda and devenshire, or the location by the mall on corbin and nordhoff?

  • I lived there untill novemer 93 and left thank god

  • wow! it was only 10 to 20 seconds really???? it felt like it was forever, of course i was only like 5 years old at the time in Van Nuys, off of victory and woodman. Man!, that was scary. Till this day i remember this.

  • @jdjfausto I was 9 at the time and remember thinking the same thing when we went outside, it kinda scared me to see the sky so lit up with stars!

  • Too bad you didn't get video of all the highrises.

I got shots of all the bases of the highrises in beverly hills and hollywood before the owners painted them over. all were badly damaged.

  • My grandfathers heads literally shook off his shoulders during this quake...Poor guy

  • Of all the bad memories this quake gave me, one thing i will always remember is looking up at the sky as i left my house, i couldnt believe how many stars you could see when the power gets cut in the entire city. I was 14 at the time, lived on corbin ave and saticoy st, about 3/4 mile west of the epicenter.

  • Worse Earthquake I have ever been in. And I went through the Landers and Big Bear Quake, but Nothing like this. Very Sad.
