I had the opportunity to run some of my Amtrak equipment on a buddy's layout recently and decided to shoot some video. This is the first model video I've ever done. The layout features the N&W Pocahontas Division in the mid 1950s, so this train looks a little out of place amongst the other equipment. Regardless, it's a superb layout to run trains on, and I had a great time running my stuff. Thanks Thomas!

The F40PHs up front are Kato models, as is the materials handling car immediately behind them. The baggage and crew sleeping cars are Walthers Budd cars, former ATSF and UP prototypes, respectively. The Viewliners are Overland brass models. The former NYC diner as well as the Amfleet II cars are all Walthers models. The gray coach is a custom job done from a Rivarossi/Walters car (I'm not happy with the color; it looks good in certain light and awful in others). The two rear MHCs are also from Walthers, as well as the MILW Skytop private car on the rear.

Why 1996? I turned 8 years old that year, and it's the first year I can really recall detailed memories of seeing Amtrak trains through my home town of Atlanta. At this time, the train ran daily between New York and Atlanta, continuing on to New Orleans 4 days a week. With the current HO scale models offered by Walthers, it is very easy to model such a train.

  • Are those Overland Models Amtrak Viewliners? They don't quite look like the Walthers type...

  • @trinityct They sure are. Good eye!

  • @trinityct so it looks like you can get the Walthers version on Amtrak's website for like 30 bucks. I

  • @BLKdurangoTRAINhorns those are amtrak viewliner sleeper cars, there are only two manufacturers of these in HO scale, and the ones in this video are very rare and very expensive. the ones shown in this video are overland models brass (which is what makes them so expensive) :P and the walthers viewliners are about....mmmmm...say 20X less expensive than these overland models viewliners. the walthers viewliners cost roughly 25-30 each, while overland models cost up to 550 each

  • Can someone tell me who makes the second and third phase 4 passenger cars, and where I can get them? Thanks.

  • @rttx Hehe thanks! I have a walthers viewliner. :)

  • SWEET
