Any follow up to this would be streamlined to death. Look at the latest Civ game, only way to win is through combat (until mods arrive maybe). This had it all. it was intelligent and demanded you think. No Alpha Centauri 2 released in this 'multi-format' market would be as deep as this original. There is enough in this game and the expansion to play the game forever anyway. So don't put your effort into AC2, put your effort into enjoy the fantastic original that will never be replicated!

@HardWarUK Somewhat sadly I must agree, I tried the new civ V and I did not liked it. The new games are getting ever more shallow, I won my first civ V game in just a few hours, with no challenges what so ever and felt totally bored. Maybe It's better that they don't remake SMAC, they would simply ruin it.

Riecently I browsed Civ4 and Alpha Centauri forums, it's really nice to see that almost 10 years after release, this game is still popular. There are living comunity, online tourments. Many hoped, that next Civ4 addon will be AlphaCent, but they made Colonization. As I understand there is copyright problems. Sid mayerd doesn't have full rights to make next part, it's sort of EA games property, but they aren't really using it.(audio is from game, intro& some other & diatonis secret univers sample

Honestly, I still play this game. I've never gotten the expansion (didn't know there was one) but would definitely buy Alpha Centauri 2! Seriously though.... I'm too lazy to go door to door :P

Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri is the best thing ever and I wasted years of my teenage life playing that game. I think SMAC 2 should have a graphical face lift at the very least, the sort of thing Chris Sawyer's Locomotion aka Transport Tycoon 2 did.

Thumbs up if you can play SMAC at Transcend difficulty level!

I would vote for a remake, and you could choose to have the original, with better graphics and controls, or the streamlined version.

I love Alpha Centauri, even though i can't wrap my head on how to play it well.

I still play this online with some buddies. Its easy, I found a nice hosting system and such for us to play on with extreme ease. I love this game, way better than Civilization. Civ feels just bland and mundane by comparison. I mean, your techs are things like "The Wheel" and "Gunpowder." Well, you already have a a pretty good idea of what those developments will give you. But in AC, you have to pay attention to the story and datalinks a lot. What the hell is Polymorphic Software?

Anyone that wants to see a Alpha Centauri 2 show go to the 2k games techincal support page and report a problem and say "MAKE ALPHA CENTAURI 2! DO IT!" If enough people do it they will have to notice.

This game is like planescape - torment. I would love an expan, but if they haven't made one yet, they probably never will. Its one of only a few games that I have had on my hard drive ever since it was released.
