TVA has been tracking coal fly ash off the disaster site since early Jan 2009. This is partially due the fact that TVA employees see the ash as just mud. It is safe enough to pick up with your bare hand. This is why TVA has allowed their employees to knowingly drive coal ash onto the public roads of East TN. If TVA's Gil Francis and TN's Governor say that it is okay then it must be fine to track a little bit out on the roads.

Now the "lead regulatory agency", Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation should know better. Coal fly ash is regulated as a solid waste in TN and as such all vehicles leaving the disaster site should be washed using a closed cycle system that will catch and treat the wash water. Bob Alexander of TDEC stated that it was to cold to wash the vehicles properly and that the amount of coal fly ash the vehicles were tracking out was small. I say that any amount of coal fly ash being tracked out is un acceptable and it is against the law.

  • welldone keep up the good work

    =]

  • Straight A's ,which is why I'm gainfully employed and not a penniless hippie with nothing better to do than annoy hard working people :p.

  • I see. You believe that resources are infinite, just because we haven't run out of them yet.

Or, you think that civilizations have never fallen because others coveted "their" resources.

How did you do in science and history classes?

  • Maybe not, but these people ARE being compensated for their lost possessions. And that's only a small fraction of the money being spent, most of it is to clean up alot of mud. It all came out of the earth, and now its back where it started.

  • Well, since that's the way its been for most of human history I would say its pretty sustainable to be honest.

  • "our quality of life"

There's the rub. 5% of the world's population consuming 25-30% of its resources is not sustainable, no matter how much profit it brings TVA. Whatever energy sources we choose, the future must include the cheapest solutions of all - conservation and reduction in American greed.
