Well, I don't usually like to do covers of songs by female vocalists, because I feel that people are more apt to compare me to them instead of just accepting my voice for what it is. But..this song is pretty, and it's really easy to play on guitar, so I just decided to do a cover of it anyway. :)

Um, when someone comes up with their own version of a song, I believe they can play any chords they want.

There are no rules that constitute a cover, such as whether or not you can change chords or strum patterns. With that being said, the chords I've chosen to play obviously mimic the original melody. Just because the chords were changed doesn't mean it was total crap. There are plenty of covers on youtube with correct chords that still sound like "total crap", as you might say.

Maybe you should tell me the "right" chords so that I can upload a video that meets your approval.
