It's a challenge to play over one chord for an extended period of time and sustain melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic interest. Here played over a Cminor chord, trying various pentatonic scales, modes, and motifs.

  • my god its a wal///those things are 7000$ worth every penny but i play a musicman fretless..

  • @sprintbass I love Musicman fretlesses....I have a fretted 5....

  • Really excellent song. I just purchased an MTD KZ4 Fretless today and even though I've never played a fretless bass yet I hope too very soon. It just sounds so differenct, like almost of in tone since I play fretted they don't have that tone like an Indian (India) sytle of exotic string sound. Of course Les Claypool makes em crazy cool too but in a way different way. You think there are any DVD's out there to get that are helpful? Thanks.

  • @Ikillpeopleforfree I'm sure there are DVD's but I don't know any.

  • Great tone, man! Beautiful bass.

  • @mackymaca Thank you.

  • what is so specific in tone of wal, also in rickenbackers? heavy mids or scooped mid/strong treble?

  • Sounds good! Kinda reminds me of the music of Ottmar Liebert & Luna Negra but without the Rumba Flamenco guitar strumming.Cheers!

  • Very cool improvisations!!

  • @BassLessonsNow i guess when i think of wal i think of nick beggs eary stuff with kajagoogoo (he eventually moved to a 2 band musicman stingray) But mostly i think of mick karn from japan...those bass's have an amazing preamp and pick ups in them..there is NO WAY to emulate that, sure chorus and delay can be used..but there is a tone to them that in unmatched..ive wanted one since i was a kid but i never come across them, in UK they are more common, but ive never seen one in USA>

  • great!!!!

  • Lovely playing, thanks. What kind of wood is your bass made of
