MusicFrom, leading dutch music website, review Black Sheep:
What do you do when you want to release an album and contracts with various labels in the past haven't yielded what you had hoped for? You start your own label. This was the presumption CARRERA had and they founded FreakyDeakyDutch Records for their fifth release. Apparently this trio from Wijk bij Duurstede isn't doing bad, according to Lupus Thunder's (The Bloodhound Gang) quote "You guys are on my good band list!".
This fifth release by the band is full of wonderful rock 'n roll songs, to which you can't sit still. Apart from mostly own work, they chose to record two covers and adding them to the record. These are "Tupelo County Jail" by High Plains Tradition and "Enjoy the Silence" by Depeche Mode. "Enjoy The Silence" has already been done by numerous other bands. All these bands tried to give it their own sound, but usually the feeling remains that the original is better. This also happens with CARRERA; the band gives it their own sound and makes a decent song, but it remains there, alas.
The tracks on "Black Sheep" hurl past you like a fast moving train and before you know it you spent half an hour. One song is more punk oriented, while further on songs ooze with southern rock. If you're looking for an album with up-tempo rock & roll songs with southern-rock influences, which will have you whistling along, then "Black Sheep" is really an album for you. And for those who can't whistle: humming along is fine too!
