Kate Bush - Egypt (1979 Xmas Special)

Am I right in thinking that this is about someone's obsession with Egypt, despite the fact they've never been there?

Hence the contrast in video between the 'tourist' image of Egypt and the rather scabby reality?

I've no idea what's going on at the end, though!

1979 not 1978 and Egypt was written before 1980.

Both "Egypt", "Violin" and "The Wedding List" were written and recorded before this show was made. There is a demo version of "Violin" from 1976 and both "Violin" and "Egypt" were performed on her 1979 tour. This show was recorded in October 1979 and broadcast in December 1979. The versions of all those three songs are pretty similar to the album versions, so I guess the recordings were mostly finished when this show was made. But all the songs were recorded especially for the show.
