Before dying, he takes his own life and destiny in his own hands and begs forgiveness and sees the errors of his way, begging knowing that he does not deserve. The scene is touching as this was a man who in his last moments had humble beginnings and humble ends by having humility in the end he did not have in his previous lifetime. He took his life, knowing the consequences of his actions.

  • yeah.. wolsey was definetly a character who you dont know what to think off... at first you have nothing to say against him.. then you think he is manipulating everyone..and he is pretty mean to catherine [i liked her, some great acting there] and in the end you feel so sorry for him..

  • "Count no man happy until he be dead"

    Solon

  • hey.. do you actually have the little 'speech' that wolsey is saying in this scene? because i can't hear it out [i am austrian ^^] but its pretty nice what he's saying..

  • "Lord, we have not spoken as long --or as often as--we should. I've often been about other business. If I wanted forgiveness, I should ask for it, but... for all that I have done, and for all that I am yet to do, there can be no forgiveness. And yet I think I'm... I'm not an evil man. No, evil men pray loud and seek penance and think themselves closer to Heaven than I am.

  • I shall not see its gaze, Lord, nor hear Your sweet words of salvation. I have seen eternity, I swear, but it was in a dream and in the morning all was gone. I know myself for what I am, and I throw my poor soul upon Your forgiveness... in the full knowledge that I deserve none at Your loving hands."

  • it's actually gates, not gaze, sorry. and he say though evil men, not no, evil men.

  • i didnt throu the trouble of listening carefuly what he says as my english isnt 1 of my strong parts so i just google it but ty for pointing it out

Yes, I´m agreed with you. I always like this character even when so many others characters in the show hated him. Thanks for your coment.

  • @magicalpj As I just downloaded it, I can attest to this. ^^

  • @NatyzSnape There's no way to watch this scene ad not empathize with the man. and the coolest thing about him, he never once asks for pity. He simple goes about his business in the way he sees best.

  • @ 2:20 ILLUMINATI in the 16th century ???

  • @aQubaisi Not sure if you still care, but it's called "Cardinal Wolsey Commits Suicide/Finale" by Trevor Morris. Apparently, you can get the song on iTunes. (I haven't checked myself.)

  • Indeed, the martyrdom of Thomas More is very accurate and powerful, I think, but this is unjust. Does a man deserve to be misrepresented so grosely?

  • @MrCharlesDouglas

excatly I love this cut too.More was such a religous fanatic.he let burned innocent people.

  • Although Wolsey didn't historically commit suicide the series covered. When Henry was told he says "No one must ever know". I think this was very cleaver. Also Charles Brandon did marry Henry's sister but it was Mary rather than Margaret. However, the show didn't want viewers getting confused with his daughter Mary.
