Hondata RSX 227 mph spin

Bonneville Salt flats. Qualifying run for G/BGCC class (2 litre, Blown, spec Gas, Competition Coupe class. Spun out just after the 5th mile and hit a cone. Flat spotted all 4 tyres, but quaified for a record. Backed up the record the next morning with a 234 mph run with a 100 shot of nitrous. Speedweek 2008. See earlier 211 mph pass video.

I hit 201mph at El Mirage - which is a much shorter track at 1.3 miles in July.

The race categories are based on engine sizes. This RSX has a 2l engine. The next capacity break is up to 3l. It is fairly logical to assume that with 50% more engine you will be able to make more power.

With front wheel drive, the faster you go, the more aero downforce you have on the front and the more traction you have. Most of the rwd cars need to add several hundred pounds of lead to counteract the aerodynamic lift over the rear wheels so that traction can be maintained.

A few more facts: - This is the world's fastest Acura. - It has records in every class it has entered (8 world records in total) - In all the naturally aspirated categories my 2 litre RSX runs faster than all the 3 litre cars (which are all rear wheel drive) - This RSX has already exceeded the speed of the Blitz-Jun Auto GTR on the 1.3 mile dry lakebed course at El Mirage. RSX - 196 mph, GTR 194 mph. And the GTR is in the 3 to 4.2 litre category, two class sizes up from the RSX!

Wow. Too bad it's FWD. If it was RWD it would be almost as fast as the world landspeed record holder JUN Auto 1991 Nissan 300ZX with a run at 419.87 km/h or 260+mph and the best run at 424.740 km/h or 267+mph.
