Juvenile pilocytic astrocytoma is a benign brain tumor that has been overlooked because it is "benign." It is a slow growing tumor that can cause devastating effects. Please help find a cure and donate to the Pediatric Low Grade Astrocytoma Foundation. http://www.firstigiving.com/joshuayorgey

  • Josh finished a year of chemo this August. But started to have more growth. We will rescan in 3 months to decide if we need to start treatment or if there is a sugical option. He does have headaches but they are well controlled on Amitryptline and toradol. He usually has them when he wakes up in the morning. Balance issues and sore neck are two things to be worried about. (to sweetmiracle) and Josh's primary was in the cerebellopontine angle. He has lost all his hearing in the left ear.

  • Josh started chemo in August- more tumor growth in the brainstem.

  • How is Josh doing? My daughter, Hannah is also fighting this dreaded foe!! We are part of the watch and wait group..her former Neurosurgeon left PEICES of the tumor in her brain and her new Doc is watching them for growth..she has rotten headaches now..don't know why. She also has had to have a VP shunt put in...Hope Josh is doing well..god bless!

  • Josh is doing well! The watch and wait club is no fun! Next MRI is 4/21.

  • @6258jackie Bless him!! My daughter has had two shunt revisions, and no help with the headaches. She sometimes has two to three a day. Even her neurologist cant figure it out. She's on Amitryptline, and it's not working. She also has no appetite, and no real thirst. She's almost 5'3" and she weighs between 81-83 lbs...it goes up and down. I'm taking her to see a new neurosurgeon...maybe a fresh set of eyes? She also claims her back is killing her-it's scary, and so hard to see them in pain.

  • @6258jackie where was his primary, if you don't mind me asking? Also, what were the symptoms of regrowth? my daughter's is the horrible headaches, and now the pain is going down her neck...she is very, very wobbly...would really love to hear from you.

  • Question, does your son have headaches after the surgery? My daughter has JPA grade I, she's had two surgery's, and we were told that after the last one back in July 2010, that her cancer was gone. She has had horrible, horrible headaches, she also now has a vp shunt...any thoughts? I'm having another Neurosurgeon take a look at her scans...

  • The best of luck to your son! Im 14 now and have had treatments and surgery for my tumor(same type j.p.a,) in Boston the rest is inoperable though. Life since I was 11 has just been a waiting game. It's stable now but the dr.s don't know if it will start up again. It's hell having the doctors limit everything they tell me- if it's stable than does it still mean I'll be gone in a year or is there any different life expectancy now?..... I know it can be the hardest thing so i wish the best of hea

  • need an add on...when I had my brain operation...they could not get it all...also eat seeds:::...apple....grape...aprecot.....they have vit B17....a cancer killer...preventor....

  • I am going on 48...and have had brain cancer...Pliocytic-astrocytoma sine the age 7-8....had one brain operation as an adult.....No chemo....No radition.....Stay away from sugars....milk...products with hormones.......and never let a doctor tell you how long you will live.....

  • please visit my site...there could be other possible cures....

  • NO it's not!!! I hate it!! Every little thing scares me...she hasn't been eating well since surgery..we almost have to stand on our heads to get her to eat!! Has Josh gone thru that? That and she is so pale--(can I click my heels three times? That and the Ruby slippers..lol) Headaches of unknow origin now...and she has had a check on her VP shunt too...(got to see ALL the peices of tumor her FORMER surgeon left behind...AUGH!) Wonder why they wait for it to grow--and then treat with Chemo?
