Adam Christian Ford (age 11) explores Rocky Mountain National Park in 2005. The part about love was a sample from about 30 lines like those I told him some combination of every day since he was an infant. If i didn't repeat them often enough, he would remind me, as he did in this video. It was part of our goodnight ritual, ending (during our Waltons phase) with "Goodnight, John-boy." Later (during our MASH phase) he wanted me to say, "Goodnight, Hawkeye." Sometimes I would pretend to forget and he would pretend not to notice, dawdling about waiting with practiced nonchalance until I said it; then his face beamed with love.
You hear people say things like, "take a chance" "make something extraordinary" "follow your dreams". Dick Ford did just that; not only in the physical sense but so much more. He loved Adam. He taught him so much academically, socially, most important he taught him how to love himself and others. The world is a better place because not only was Adam in it, but that his dad was and is still here to enrich all of our lives.
