Living Well by Rob Crow

Released in 2007 on Temporary Residence.

Rob Crow is a busy man with many side projects and bands. Pinback, Goblin Cock, Team Sleep, The Ladies, those are the ones I've actually heard. They're all fairly different and showcase different aspects of Rob's influences and creativity.

On his 4th solo outing, Rob Crow is in more of a focused, singer songwriter mood. Creative song arrangements, with subtle complexities, mostly made on an acoustic guitar, drum machine, some synth and few other bells and whistles.

All the songs on here are very guitar driven. The song structures are unique, the have individual builds and subtleties that give them each their own identity. Each song has Rob's distinct singing voice and similar relaxed / confident mood and sound.

Nothing on this album is groundbreaking or mind blowing, but that doesn't detract from the albums enjoyability. It's a very easy to album to get into, the songs are engaging, nothing sounds boring or ordinary, Robs voice is especially pleasant to listen to. You don't need to be a fan of his other projects to get into this. I wasn't. The whole album has a rather laid back and unassuming vibe to it. It's intelligent and very consistent.

If you just want to hear some good songs, with nothing overly wild and crazy about them, Living Well might be for you.
