A few years back, the FAA revoked his commercial medical certificate basically for being too old. He fought it in court, and they cited an incident a few weeks earlier where he had blown an engine in a warbird 20 miles out over the Pacific and managed to glide it back to a safe landing. His certificate was reinstated.

Just defeat the GPWS with a push button on the panel. Have to do that all the time when flying into non-NOAA private airports. The GPS doesn't "know they're there" and will say "terrain ahead, terrain ahead...pull up, pull up!!!" Scares the passengers to death!

I wonder if it was Bob Hoover who flew the plane in a scene from the movie "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" with Mickey Rooney and Buddy Hackett.
-
When he performed the stunts with the sabreliner, I thought "Mother fucker..."

@holywells Seems like I read an article in FLYING magazine years ago in which HOOVER stated he never pulled more than 3.5 Gs in the Shike routine...

Just one flight in the cab with Bob. And i'll be set for life.

@rangelso obviously you don't know who you are watching

@GCD89 According to him it is a stock aircraft. He said that it can perform almost any maneuver that a fighter can perform and it all depends on just how precise that the aircraft is flown. He never over stresses the airframe because he is totally aware of its limitations. And, as we all know, he can fly it more precisely than any pilot who ever lived. He is the absolute master of anything that he flys.
I get to look at it every day at spartan college. They dont even do anything with it any more all it does is just there.

Thats a shame. It should be in a museum on display. I know Planes of Fame Air museum would sure give it a great home.
