This is a great little experiment and it worked better than we had anticipated.
We can't take credit for the boat we purchased that at educationalfunkits.com if you are interested. This test has lots of neat physics going on "change of state" and "Newton's Third Law of Motion" and more. We had a blast. Max figured out you could take the melted wax and pour it into the water and have it turn instantly back to a solid.
