Gender based violence in Dzaleka refugee camp, Malawi.
Boredom, isolation and frustration contribute to an increase in abues particularly against woemn and children. This film describes Malawi Red Cross (MCRS) leading efforts, in partnership with UNHCR , in preventing and responding to Gender based violence (GBV) in Dzaleka, a refugee camp of 10,000 people form different parts of Africa. It focuses on the problem of violence ( domestic violence, unwanted pregnancies and male behaviour) and the ways MCRS is tackling GBV in the refugee camp context. This include community mobilisation, education and training , guidance on how to respond to GBV reported cases ( womens empowerment,income generating activities and safe houses for victims) in partnership with the refugee camp committee, the police ands the judiciary system.
This film, produced by the IFRC Southern Africa Zone, is part od a series of documentaries capturing good practices within Nationa Societies from the region. It is a communication and advocacy tool to further motivate the Red Cross Red Crescent organisations and other stakeholders to integrate GBV across programmmes, in particular those targetting displaced people.
