The Mauldulator installed on a Galaxy 2527 to show the characteristics of a clipped limiter radio and a Motormouth mauldulated radio with equal power. Watts shown are "Bird" watts. i really don't know what those are but oh well...The Mauldulator is capable of greater than 300% positive peaks, however , it is not recommended. Most receivers can't handle it unless they are of the synchronous type . Note, that some form of audio processing should always be used to keep audio overshoots from passing the levels required to properly modulate the radio. If the carrier is either pinched, or the negative peaks are flat, or the positive peaks are flat, you either have the Mauldulator set wrong, or your non Mauldulated transmitter is not capable of such modulation levels.

  • Sure thing there Xcalibur :) The only thing is that the output power will not be quite as high, but that is what an amp can take care of ;)

  • Any radio that has a 12 Volt driver and final. Bi Polar or Mosfet. Some of the export radios have built in linear amplifiers after the driver and final, and that is fine. Just a driver and final, you get 3/4 Watt Dead Key, and 6 Watts PEP with the same scope pattern in the video. If you lower the carrier to say 1/4 Watt, you get 2 Watts PEP with the same 200% and headroom to go beyond that. It is up to the proper use of amplifiers to get back up the level required. Don't let small #'s fool you

  • Didn't mean to post that 10 times ;)

  • I'm gonna give him the benefit of the doubt, and think he means he likes the sound kinda like a bass musician or a guitarist likes when the tube amp is driven to soft clipping. I like that sound too, and it is not clean. But it is not crap either. That is why this version of the Mauldulator has tube emulation. It does a lot to thicken the audio and make it sound warmer and heavy at the same time.
