This is an update to Mobile Accessibility, referencing a video I did back in February "From Notetakers to Mainstream PDAs to ?". I wanted to thank HumanWare, Code Factory, RIM, Apple, and some company starting with an S, for bringing accessibility to the iPhone, Blackberry, and (pending) to Android.

  • Dude.. From the technical aspect for this video.

What is this high piched noise in background of this video? it drives me insane. Please try to research what it was and try to avoid it next time ^^

I see that u're trying to touch some acessibility topic. I think i need to watch a bit more videos of yours.

  • Yeah, I'd say you should watch more. LOL Anyway, the sound is most likely my processor.

  • well there is a point to be made: all though many consumers the perception that andriod, blackberry, iphone ... still Windows Mobile holds about 15-20% of the share and it has been consistent over the past 5 years. Minimally 15% will stay because of business functionability. RIM is the only real competitor in the Business sector, but you have to pay more to use their products. Windows Mobile is not going anywhere; with 7 it is supposed to be much smoother... so we shall see...

  • It had better be smoother. Right now I can't stand the fact that it exists. I ran a WM6.1 emulator on my UMPC just to practice usng the stylus, and that made htings a lot easier, but beyond that I felt like the UI was missing consistency and/or ease of use. This is a standard WM6.1 as Microsoft would deliver it, not how you'd see it from HTC or LG all dressed up & handsome.

  • You're absolutely right in that it is a good thing to make ALL devices accessible. However, the movement to more and more touch screen devices is counter-productive to this movement. Those individuals who are completely blind can NOT really use touch screens.

  • Also this was more of a "it has been done, and done quick" thing. If you haven't done it yet, watch that video I mention at the beginning, because this is really a follow up to that.

  • yes the processor of a mac computer.. thats what u get if you buy a mac

  • What I've seen from Android is: Eyes Free Android.

The system won't let me post a link so just do a search for that on You Tube.

It's a number of specialized applications for the blind. not a whole system accesiblity suit like Voice Over.

I may have missed out of further developments for Android.

I still have my doubts about the ability of build in software to beat payware. it seems like the payware companies continuously struggle to make accessibility work.

  • Point me to it.

  • i prefer windos moble since im windos all the way with wondows moble i understand who it works.

  • Sorry to be off topic but what was that little tone around 1:15?

    Thanks.

  • This is true, but look at what Apple did with the iPhone. I don't see how it could get simpler than that with the capacitive touch screen, so we're on our way, but I do think bluetooth keyboard support should be an option.
