Released in 2007 on Merge records.

Ga Ga Ga (which I like to think is a jab at Lady Gaga, but it's doubtful) is a pretty consistently listenable slice of indie rock. The songs have a variety of styles and the attention to detail on here is admirable.

Indie rock is definitely one of the safer genres in music today. Even crap indie rock bands get credibility just for making some crap songs, just cause their indie or lo fi. That's not the case with Spoon. Spoon are craftsmen. They treat their music like art.

Spoon is pretty big deal over here. Lots of indie kids fawn over them and for good reason. They have no pretense, they don't demand your attention, but if you do pay attention, the songs can be very rewarding. Definitely not your generic rock band.

The songs do have a familiar vibe to them, if you listen to pavement or Modest Mouse or Wilco ect, but Spoon definitely have their own unique voice. Spoon aren't a gimmicky band, but their songs do have many subtle frills. They are multi instrumentalists and incorporate pianos, cellos, chamberlain's, flamenco guitars, ect. There's a buffet of styles on display here.

Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga is a very short album (36 mins) but there is a weird bonus cd. Nothing sounds excessive or out of place. All the songs are very well thought out. The production is A +.

If you're an indie rock fan, you most definatly have this album already.

4/5

  • Why would you have to compromise on hip hop? White indie kids fucking love hip hop--especially the golden age stuff.

  • My boss is a gino. Hip hop scares him. Makes him feel uneasy.

  • Woot! Go gay indie music. Could you reveiw your least favorite and favorite Pavement album?

  • the album title isn't a remark against lady gaga. Its cause the song "the ghost of you lingers" it sounds like gagagagagagaga. so they just called the album that.

    Great review by the way!

    Yeah, Spoon isn't too bad.

    I dig em

  • it's not a shame they got so big. it's awesome.

  • this shit rocks hard. i had to make a bat mitzvah video for this girl in michigan and i scored the end to "you got your cherry bomb" right when that song came out and now it's like a radio hit. i'll bet that jewish girl feels cool. i got kill the moonlight when it came out and i didn't like it at all so i gave it to my ex-girlfriend. then i got back into spoon and now they're one of my favorite bands. a shame they got so big. ga ga isn't my favorite. either kill the moonlight or gimme fiction.
