For all the haters out there, This man play's Van Halen better than Edward van Heineken himself! I thought it was flawless ,a 12 on a 10 scale, That lick at 1:17-1:20 sums it up pretty well. "On less you can do any better" than dont say anything at all...
@howzaou812 countless players lazily adopted Eds wanky guitar ways after Eruption and rocks suffered. Ed did a parody of himself by cramming wank into pop fluff Jump and that was the end of Ed as a heavy metal player for me.
@gtrrobster exactly - those elusive timeless rock riffs that immediately evoke a mood, tell a story, make a point! They've been in steady decline since the wank-happy 80s and their obligatory power ballads with pre-requisite solos ending at the usual (custom-made) 25th fret or higher.
Ed coaxed a lot of decent tone out of relatively cheap if customized gear. Can't go onstage without special high-priced gear anymore. Songcraft and new ideas come in distant second.
Agreed/...yeah, I like Eruption sure....but I think Eddie's greatest contrib is his riffs in tunes like Beaut Girls, Bottoms Up, WACF, Fair WArning....I love his solos , but more so the grooves and riffs/hooks.
Plus just his tone in general...and stuff like CAthedrals, WinL intro...just the creative aspect....
@gtrrobster Eds done fine, I just disagree that Eruption, in particular, is supposed to be Eds best work, much less the greatest guitar solo ever created and explained why.
@Lushsucr no idea who or what youre blathering on stupidly about all the time "Kendall Milwaukee Chapman". Eruption is the topic and it sucks cuz its stale wank
