Sheeeeight !!!
The poor bugger didn't stand a chance.

We were just about to leave to avoid the exit traffic until I heard a massive sigh from the crowd, turned back and saw the impala head right towards the ground. It was frightening to say the least but very sad as I believe this was his last flight

Bad job for the coroner......

My wife and I was there. I watched him approach from low behind the crowd. The main group kept the crowd busy while the solo sneaked in from behind. I expected it since they practiced this trick at Langebaan Road where I used to be based. So I was watching him through the entire approach and loop. Extremely disturbing. And it happened so fast. I can remember the shoot come out and we all hoped he had made it, but he did not. Impala did not have zero-zero ejection seat. He was to low.

I was there that day, I remeber it like it was yesterday, I rember seeing him eject and the crown and how fast they got those MRI Bell 206 medical choppers airborn.
Soon after that, they carried on witrh the show and a Mirage F1 took off for its display, one pass included it popping flairs and I thought it was the pilot ejecting for a split second, almos ran like hell.

Charles was at school with me - I was on the news-desk at Radio 702 that day. Devastating.

It happened on 2 October 1993 at Lanseria airport, Johannesburg. Capt Charlie Rudnick was busy with the solo display for the SAAF Silver Falcons.
