@whole27 if there was a major mechanical failure like he was showing the car would power on but the on board computer would be going crazy with failure codes which it did not do. the battery light on the dash was for the 12v battery. the hybrid drive computer monitors the hybrid batt and the gen

@whole27 just so you know those parts do not fail. i believe he misdiagnosed the problem. the generator is what drives the car as well the gasoline system is just a generator that provides electric power. the 12v battery was the problem not the main batt or the generator. priuses use 2 batteries. one 12v like a normal car for accessories, and the hybrid battery pack. if the 12v battery is dead the car will not turn on or start.

@mds2465 i have had mine rebuilt for around $20 - $30 dollars and they work just as good as a brand new one.

@scottykilmer Hibrids were supposed to be green and enviroment friendly, what I'm guessing they produce more scrap and polution thant conventional cars. Polution is not the one comming from the car, but all the pollution generated in the process to manufacture it. It's marketing shit, telling the car is green, them forcing scrap because quality issues. Does Toyota tell this in the adverts ?. Are the tons of scrap green ?.

at 1:41 thats a scary price!!

OOOOO i could use it for parts for same Prius 02. The battery's need to be replace its got 250,

And think about all the chemical contamination from the batteries. And the complexity of the manufacturing process also.

@monkehbitch yea i was in love with the prius five but this video completely ruined my view of hybrids. Yes i do plan on keep any car for 20 plus years so i'm sure i will have to change the battery and perhaps generator on a hybrid so i want no part of that.
I'll just go with a corolla or civic coupe!
i highly doubt it was the generator that failed. if you jumped it with a regular battery and it started then the electric generator is fine. my guess is its the second 12v battery or the main hybrid battery that failed. its rare on the newer priuses but the 1st gen prius had early battery technology which sometimes would fail but VERY rarely. my guess is it was the 12v that bit the dust.

@mysqueeker Well, you don't know squat, just like the owner who was dumb enough to buy this car used for waay too much money. she didnt' believe me either, so she towed it to the toyota dealer. They confirmed it and the car was junked, they wouldn't even buy it from her to fix and resell as the repair was so expensive to do. for your info, I do have a dealer level scan computer to confirm my estimate, I just don't show that stuff in the vids, as few people have those.
