A Jessica Mutch story for TVNZ News that aired on Saturday 11th July, 2009 about the role that the TASER is playing in the New Zealand police force. I did the info graphics that turn up every now and then throughout the piece.

  • If the Criminal is carrying a firearm, and wearing Body Armour(Kevlar Vest or Metal Plate) a Taser is just going to piss him off.

  • @fixdeluxe1 True, guess that's why we also have the armed offenders squad though I agree that's not gonna help the cop with the taser who's first on the scene much good. I have no idea about this kind of thing but is it relatively easy to get hold of kevlar body armour in NZ?

  • @tropicalcatdetective Yep....they aren't restricted and lots for sale over TradeMe.But remember a lot of criminals could just knock out a cop and take his vest.

Yep,the Armed Offenders Squad is too slow to mobilize and deploy, but you don't have to outright arm the officers.Keeping a Rifle in the Boot of the car should do the trick. If the offender has a firearm, fall back to your car, evacuate civillians and then take cover with the rifle.

  • @fixdeluxe1 haha, trademe? Classic. I would never have known!

  • I love Jessica Mutch.

  • @seanmaln It's the same model as the American one. NZ Police don't use the old black one used in the article shown here. They use the yellow ones just as the US cops do.

  • New Zealands stun guns looks soo ugly and bulky, Americas is nice looking and compact

  • lmao, NZ police are just now getting into tasers.

    We've had that for years.

  • @ghettogold55 No no, mate. Fuck you.

  • That Keith Locke is an idiot.

  • The fear about the tasers is because it is predominately non lethal, suspects know their is a much greater chance of them using it, as opposed to a gun. Hence arises fear due to lack of doubt.

  • @tropicalcatdetective I would never have expected that either.I have brought a few hunting rifles and a duck shooting shotgun off trademe, can be helpful but yes,as you have realised there is the opportunity for crap.
