i was always taught to do mobility exercises before any cardiovascular warmup, why do you do it the other way round?
-
@mwich40 yea i heard that static stretching before can decrease power and explosiveness. which made me question if its still good for after the workout. I havent really found anything online about it surprisingly. thanks for your input man, take care.

Hey Matt, you remind me of a more buff version of Corey Taylor hahahaha.

Matt,
Do you do any extra stretching after your training sessions or do you feel that this warm up along with your training is enough to maintain your flexibility & mobility? Thanks.

I do alot of the dynamic stretches and movements you do in this video for my warmups, but what do you do after your workout??? I have been hearing from a few people that static stretches are useless. Im trying to find out if static stretches for after the workout is a bad idea. I box professionally and I bust my ass in the gym, I dont want to be doing anything that negates my efforts or is counter-productive. what would you reccommend for after the workout?

@froggydog1 i don't know why some people hate on static stretches, they have very good benefits for lots of people. I do not like excessive static stretching prior to intense activity, but after training, i find it valuable.

You seem to welcome question so I have a few for you if you dont mind (completely unrelated to this video lol).
When choosing a tire for tire flipping what do you base the weight of the tire on? I am guessing it has to do with your ability to deadlift(?).
Sledge hammers, do you use them? They usually weight from 6 to 20 lbs. What weight do you suggest?
Thanks.

@yyportne
Most people don't go out shopping for tires, they just take what is available to them. If you find a big one and can flip it, commandeer it! A big deadlift will help, a big power clean will help more, but it is all different albeit related.
10-12 lb sledges work great for most people. I use them for conditioning, not strength, so 10-12 works great for us.

If you can find a 20lber and are willing to spend the money, you will see a much different training response than a lighter hammer. Both are good, just different. I recommend starting lighter as you can do more with it, same with kettlebells... so i would get one in the 10-12 lb range, and any large tire you can handle

Thanks for all the vids Matt, some amazing stuff man love one handed Isabel! I was pleased to see this is just about the same as my warm up, although I am going to use those glute stretches now for sure. There was just one question I had..ok maybe 2....I tend to do more of the active stretching at the end of my warm up and you do some before you have squatted or warmed your legs up much, I thought that might lead to strains? How long do you row first? Thanks again for posting, all the best :)

My warm up changes regularly, I'm not really a creature of habit. I do not have a particular order of movements regarding ballistics and statics. I just get myself ready to go because everyday i will feel slightly different, and have a slightly different need to prepare for. After 20 years, you can go by feel and stray from the books slightly. But don't go writing your own rules until you have put in some real time.
