  • i don't really see how i don't need a cellphone or a gaming devise. in a nonconsumeristic society these things will still exist. you just won't buy anything for the sake of bying it or for the social value that the product holds.

  • @ShowtekGER the argument is that in a non-consumerist society you wouldn't need a $500 cellphone. you're arguing that you'd still have a cellphone. and i'll reply with the initial argument: it wouldn't be a $500 cellphone.

  • @ShowtekGER i think you're agreeing with me... ?

  • @hunter4hire consumerism doesn't improve quality of your life, you work hard and buy junk, then you die. consumerism only improves quality of life for the rich people who sell you all that shit. most people in capitalist countries have more stuff, but still unhappy and miserable, popping antidepressants and shopping excessively to fill the empty void in their souls. while people who live in poor countries and have less are quite happy and satisfied with their lives.

  • @stratocaster1986able to impress people we don't like!

  • Someone has been brainwashed by Marxism and Anarchistic values.

Try doing some research on Free Market, and Capitalism.

I'm not saying the system is perfect, but because of it your quality of life is improved.

Materialism is a choice. You can live this society and not have to give in to every commercial you see on the tv.

  • @CactusBobsPlace Basically, you just want to be right all the time.

  • Interesting piece. As a designer I love to design good objects to make our lives easier/enjoyable. Yet I detest consumerism. I am in a bit of a paradox! :(

  • If you are into consumerism commentary and sarcasm, have a look at channel "StillUsing". We're looking for other users who, instead of buying the latest technology, are happy to keep using older ones, for the lousy reason that they still work. We're hoping for some real finds: typewriter, tape recorder, etc.

  • The blue pill, every time.
