I have nothing but the up most respect for Buckley. I was talking about how his magazine has, in my opinion been hijacked by an ideology that contradicts much of what Buckley stood for. I have read several, National Review articles that were printed this year than run contrary to what Buckley believed.
If you really do not know the difference of
conservatism(Buckley) and neo-conservatism(Bush&friends)
, check out a political science textbook, or look it up online. -
Someone here posted his accent was a forgery. WFB was raised all over the world, English was NOT his fist language. He lived in Spain and England a portion of his life, don't post stupid things, please. He was a very committed Catholic, a man who believed in small governmment and God. He actually tacked more toward Libertarianism. A great, great man.

A great man and a fitting tribute, although that tribute just does not feel right. He did fight Bush with force, had a libertarian streak which Fox would probably abhor today, was a fitting internationalist (in fact the one which convinced me to become one) and had a more "restrained" feeling in terms of his persona. Had he died today, I can guarantee MSNBC would run a more poignant tribute, with the Tea Party destroying the one which will run on Fox News...

A truly great man. He saved me from liberalism.

@bbishoffproducer He generally lived either abroad or in New England. English was his third language, and he formally learned it in school in Paris (i.e. from French) and in England.

Buckely was one of the great intellectuals of the 20th century. Reagan was a horses's ass, as is Limbaugh, Hannity etc.

WFB Jr. was an entertainer posturing as an intellectual -cultivating the external trappings of same: the British accent, the darting tongue, the twinkle eye (so the American audience -the only such in the world to mistake him for an intellectual- would be alerted to the extra special cleverness of what he just said prior to twinkling) etc.
As if further evidence of his vacuity was needed, he obliged us with coming out on the side of "Intelligent Design" in the debate against Evolution.

Oh and I did not vote for Obama. I would have voted for Chuck Baldwin if I knew more about him before the election. It was a protest vote this year for me.

LOL, only W. could use "erudite" and "lotta folks" in the same sentence. Adorable.

Let's not forget the public persona of WFB is an invention. His parents were from Texas and Louisiana, the accent is a forgery, and he rarely discussed politics in private. I'm sure he was a swell guy but he was playing a character on TV. Entertaining yes! Real? Not really.

He went to a British boarding school. The accent is genuine.
