This film short is called "Lambeth Walk - Nazi Style" and was made by Charles A. Ridley in 1941. He re-edited existing footage of Hitler and Nazi soldiers (taken from the propaganda film "Triumph of the Will") to make it appear they were marching and dancing to "The Lambeth Walk". He used the music because members of the Nazi party had called the tune "Jewish mischief and animalistic hopping". The re-edit was distributed uncredited to newsreel companies in the US and UK. Made 60+ years before YouTube, it is regarded as one of the first political remix videos.

  • The very first You Tube Poop.

  • This is finally the best version of it on youtube.

Source Wikipedia: The film so enraged Joseph Goebbels that reportedly he ran out of the screening room kicking chairs and screaming profanities.

Keep up the good sense of humour :)

  • Another aspect of propaganda is too make your enemy appear ridiculous. Sixty years later, Trey Parker and Matt Stone handle Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein in the same manner!

  • My grandad just said he first heard this at dance n 1941 and he said everyone went mental when it was dropped. It was kinda like rave music of the time. Apparently at the dances the men would take a mixture of painkillers and fish oils to dance all night to it whereas the women would shake up bottles of lemonade and slimming pills and sip that all night.. Big band was clubbing back then. Suprised the scene hasn't been researched more.

  • Outstanding! Imagine what he could have done with good 21st-century digital video editing equipment!

  • @StanTheRecordMan And that's an endorsement if ever I heard one. :)

  • @TheCrimsonsGhosts I don't know, but it's possible that your technicolor print was never "tinted" green, it may have turned green because of age. I was projectionist at a drive in, I seen tons of 35 mm celluloid and it was often in less than perfect condition. Acetate was even worse, I seen very little of that as it was flammable and they outlawed it.

  • @StanTheRecordMan What a pity he didn't fall down the apple and pears. Good way to add injury to insult -_-

  • @StanTheRecordMan Agree! This is the best version on YouTube,, I have a 16mm technicolor print of this that has been tinted green, why!! I don't know.

  • Robert Arthur's favourite movie! :-)
