once again, the eames office people are way ahead of the creative game! this time it's in the embracing of solar energy as an entertaining energy source. the do-nothing-machine was made as a design project for the alcoa "forecast" design program in which america's top designers were asked to design something special to be made of alumium. the eames office offered this colorful device, made for fun and education and powered by the sun....
enjoy the rare film footage, it's another eames moment, fifty years ahead of it's time.

for more information on this eames moment, please see my vintage design website. http://www.eamescollector.com/

  • @eamescollector - Yes fine wires to the six small motors hidden within the various devices.

  • One of the favorites of Luminapolis Channel

  • Beautiful machine!!!

  • @FreakCitySF

According to the official arcives of Alcoa it was loaned out for an exhibition and so badly damaged that it was scrapped in the early 1970's. So.... in a sense it is everywhere in the aluminum cans we use every day.

  • Chère amie,

me voilà désolé d'apprendre que votre joli vélo que vous aimiez tellement à été volé!

sachez que cependant qu'il a un jour été dis "People are to be loved and things are to be used. We should never confuse the two by using people and loving things"

peut être Charles aurait pu le dire mais je verrai mieux cette souriante Ray s'exprimer ainsi!

    bec bec bec

  • Chere Amie,

    Charles a dit :

''Qui peut dire que le plaisir est inutile"

  • It's The Chantays "Pipeline." It fits the video perfectly.

  • What is the song playing? It sounds so "surf revivalist". I quite like it.

  • there is a wire hidden in the grass connecting the two....
