@bbeas40165 A whip in horse training is a method of communication, and when you're not actually on the horse, it's the only way to physical communicate forward motion. This type of whip does NOT actually hurt the horse. If you take a close look at this type of whip, it has a 4" long bit of string at the end called a "popper". The popper snaps in the air, which is what makes the cracking noise. It hurts about as much as it hurts to be flicked by a piece of string. Which is to say, not at all.
