1 Dead, 38 Hurt in German Flight Show Accident

A pilot of a small propeller-driven plane lost control of his aircraft while taking off at a flight show in southern Germany and crashed into a group of spectators Sunday, leaving one person dead and 38 injured, police said. (Sept. 5)

What investigators will find: it was because the plane is 70 years old... duh.

The plane is a vintage Tiger Moth. They were not super reliable even when they were new in the 30's. Cool plane but losing control on take off is unusual, typically it's landing. Also getting so far out of control to hit the crowd is unusual. A "ground loop" on take off or landing typically leaves the plane on the runway or right next to it. Looks like this plane drove across the airfield. If people were lined up along the\ side of the runway, that was not smart.
