Steffi Graf Forehand Inside-out, amplitude and range. In her commentary, Tracy Austin opines that "everyone has caught up to [Steffi's] forehand." I wonder if by "everyone' Austin means the "hundreds of girls back in the States." You'll remember that after Tracy played Steffi for the first time she told a reporter that there were hundreds of girls back in the states just like Steffi Graf. We might ask, what happened to those hundreds of girls. We might also ask, what happened to all those great forehands? Whatever the case, in this clip take note of how far Steffi can go into the backhand corner to execute her forehand. This is strategically important. See the clip titled Steffi Graf Forehand (Opponent's view). French 1999
Totally agree with your comment about Tracy Austin's ridiculous opinion about everyone else catching up to Steffi's forehand. There were other players who came along hitting the ball very hard too but none of them were able to dominate matches with their forehand the way Steffi could. She hit the ball with such precision, so close to the lines, as well as with tremendous power. That's what made her forehand the greatest shot of all time by a woman.
