DNA by Scott Perry, Ally Hammond, and Chris Gordon

DNA, also known as Deoxyribonucleic acid, contains the genetic instructions used in order to develop and determine the functioning of all living organisms. It contains a genetic code, because holds the instructions needed to construct other components of cells.

Nucleotides are the structural units of DNA, made up of a sugar, which is this coke bottle candy, a phosphate, which is a marshmallow, and a nitrogenous base, which is a mini chocolate. Each of these molecules are connected with a toothpick, which represents a covalent bond.

The phosphate in nucleotides is also found in the previously studied phospholipids, which are found in cell membranes.

The nitrogenous base, or the mini chocolate, is the only variable part of a nucleotide. DNA Nucleotides contain adenine, guanine, thymine and cytosine. Each of these compounds are connected with a covalent bond.

To create a nucleic acid, the nucleotides are connected with a hydrogen bond, or the tin foil. These bonds are weak and variable, making it possible for the macromolecule to divide and replicate in cell information transfer when amino acids are needed to be made.

The structure of DNA is something like this delicious candy double helix we have made here!

  • I thought the vid was excellent, ya'll are haters!!

  • "im just a tool. Im a big hard tool."

you probably dont get it. but i just had to say it...haha sorry.

  • Wow, the guy in this video looks like a gigantic tool

  • Original images of the DNA molecule? When you say "other components of cells" what do you mean? Proteins?

Loved the process of building the molecule while Ally was explaining. It really helps viewers understand what's going on and what's important. Using the aluminum foil for hydrogen bonds was really good.

    Did you write the music?
