"Tadadada da dadada..." -Merlin
"She's doing it again!" -Lyrica
"Just ignore her" -Lunasa
-A little skit I made about the Prismriver that one time.

A video of me melancholically listening and defeating the phantom ensemble, the Prismriver Sisters.

The Prismriver (awesome ghostly name) are the stage 4 boss of the game Perfect Cherry Blossom, the 7th installment of the Touhou Project. The Touhou Project is a series of danmaku games where stage 4 bosses initially took the established norm and break it down piece by piece. But lately ZUN decided it was too much work and forsake use to normality.

So, first thing first. Something, something, Tohonifun. It's part of the whole upcoming of Yukari to sage level thing. Tangentially related to the sisters, really. That should do it for the doujin department. Now for story time.

Once upon a time, there existed a family of four sisters and their merchant father. The father acquired a mystical item that led to his death. With the family broken by the loss, the four sisters went their separate way, with the youngest one staying behind the mansion where they lived. As time goes on, the sister, maybe out of boredom, maybe out of loneliness, decide to magically conjure three ghostly beings, three poltergeists identical in appearance and attitude to her sisters. Time passed, and the mansion where they lived somehow got transported into, for some a paradisiacal world, for others a nightmare where living demons reside. Now, long after the original four sisters died, the mansion (not to be confused with a scarlet mansion that also has the same general location) resides close to a misty lake at the foot of a mountain. Close to the mansion, one can hear a phantom ensemble coming from it, but the source of the music results untraceable.

This is the story of the Prismriver sisters. The youngest sister, Layla Prismriver, created poltergeists in the form of her other three sisters, from youngest to older: Lyrica, Merlin, and Lunasa Prismriver. Up to this day they are widely acknowledged musicians in Gensokyo, enchanting both human and youkai with their unnaturally beautiful music. Although Lunasa is the leader of the group, Merlin serves as the figurehead while Lyrica simply stay behinds playing her instrument.

Personally I think the Prismriver are fairly plain characters, but I love them. While looking for the little fanart of them there exist, I noticed they are pretty characters in a down to earth way. They are not drawn to be unnaturally beautiful. They just have a human charm to them. Nevertheless, the Prismriver are not characters to receive much attention from the fanon. However, their theme song, Phantom Ensemble, is probably one of the most liked songs in PCB and in the series, and for a good reason. Video games songs must not only be good, but they must capture the moment of the game. And this song captures it perfectly. You're fighting a trio of musicians and the song feels like the three characters are playing it as you battle them. The song is so immersive you feel like Reimu/Marisa/Sakuya is actually hearing it while the sisters perform a spectacle for them. Now that's skill.

The sister's pattern depends on your character and actions in the stage. Reimu mainly fights Lunasa, Marisa fights Lyrica, and Sakuya, Merlin. Merlin is considered to be the hardest of the three due to her over eagerness, an aspect both present on her attitude and fight. I don't really know much of how each sister fights. I'm stuck with Lunasa on the first part, so not much for me to do than learns her attacks. For the second sisters, I chose Lyrica since her attacks are fairly easy to read or are streaming patterns... although it went badly for me this time.

In the construction of the video, I tried my best to make the title/ending text as musically correct as possible. The images were pretty easy to chose, since there weren't that many. As for the songs, I expected Phantom Ensemble to be a hell to choose. It didn't disappoint. The fact that TAMusic made the arrange is incredibly fitting... I think "arrange" is incorrect English, but whatever.

Anyways, I already started classes and everything that involves (woe me). Take that as you will.

I feel stupid for that last one, since I used a low resolution version of the image and didn't noticed in time.

    "Only some parts"

Is what I'm telling people. Arranges of Phantom Ensemble lack those little sprinkles that make the original special.

  • 6:59 DAMN I CANNOT CONTROL MY BONER

    TAMusic is just too good.

  • Like usual, your skills amaze me and the music is beautiful. One day I'll get that good...for now I'm going to go crying back to my Easy Modo ;-;

  • Awesome, you used my favorite remix of Phantom Ensemble!

  • Oh that bug where Merlin does her own thing? I heard that from UD. Where can I find all of the Touhou glitches?

  • Awesome, and you still have lots of resources left! Can't wait to see how Youmu's handled. Her attacks are so dense and ridiculous. Namely, her first boss non-spell. The nightmares. They won't go away. T.T

  • @raak1010 yeah.... nothing like the original (: sometimes i played this stage only for listen that relaxing and incredible song -u- sometimes it makes me lose lifes for that reason :P is so relaxing...

  • @raak1010 Word is a bit dodgy as a whole, and tries to be as 'word'-y as possible.

... I apologize for what is probably the worst pun in all of existence.
