In the very begining, the greeks backed a rebellion in a border terrotory and aided the destruction of an otherwise tolerant persian controlled hellenic city state. So if Xerxes retaliated by eliminating a potential threat to the Persian Impere and over did it that is a different matter. By the way, the Persian Empire may not have been democratic, but predated Rome's practice of absorving other people and their culture by along time.

Lc65, how so? Xerxes invaded the west and sacked Athens. The Greeks stopped him. He went back. Greeks rolled out against him after that.

Lets your Iranian dictator does not get any funny ideas about burning down the remains of Athens and Macedonia in retaliation for Alexander laveling your historical capital back then (if he lives long enough to do that). The West started this West-East conflict back then by the Greeks against Persia, but please stop it already.
