Do you also use this -tai form for expressing a wish for the future thats fulfillment is not absolutely sure, for example "I want to go to Japan (someday)", or only for describing a current plan, like "I want to do it (now, and therefore im going to do it in near future)"?

Yes, buddy!
It indicates future tense with wish...but if you wanna make it future tense perfectly. You place word which indicates future in a phrase as Itsuka(someday), Ashita(tomorrow), Rainen(next year)etc... "Watashi wa Itsuka(someday) Nihon ni Ikitai desu." it will describe your future plan.
