@rhsdrama010 soccer in the usa didnt start in the 80s...or 1900s....its been around a long time. the youth soccer boom started in the 70s thanks to pele and ayso. 1990 wc only got in because mexico was suspended. 1994...host. 1998 - got in because mls provided a place for players. 2002 - donovan era begins.

@hworkdedication True, Mexico has the overall advantage (although keep in mind that up until the 1980s the USA cared absolutely zero for football) and they have been the better in the last couple years, but the USA still has three things over Mexico that must be agony for El Tri: The USA won the only ever match between the two teams at the World Cup; the USA, unlike Mexico, has won a World Cup knockout game away from home; and the USA has been to the World Cup semifinals. Mexico has not.

@oloera10708 A friendly is an official match by FIFA and is counted toward the rankings. Also USA is still 10-4-3 against mexico with last years Gold Cup being the first time USA beat Mexico outside the Azteca since 1999. (2009 and 2005 were Unmatched Tournaments, And therefore, not credited by FIFA). I'm sure you were crushed last summer, seeing as you're from the USA.
