@stopglobalswarming I was refering to common bikes where you can only push on a pedal and cannot pull on the other to balance the rolling torque, and common peoples having much more pushing force than pulling in their legs. Professional bikes and bikers are less prone to this (but still do it when rushing). But maybe I didn't caught the joke, right?
I think that would get old really fast, but you are very close to a very powerful idea: a treadle powered recumbent. Now if you can make one that leaves the seat stationary in regards to the frame, but employs alternating leg press extensions that push against the recumbent seat, a rider could employ a very strong ratio of leverage and much more power than a cycle using his weight alone to press the pedals or treadle arms.
I know of a man with something very similar running around Turin, Italy...anyway Ben needs a gear shifter. Nice to see and looks stable even when pumping very hard because the push is simmetrical, traditional bikes need to be wobbled like hell when you want maximum power output...
Cool idea. Do you have it patented.
