The United States has discovered nearly $1 trillion in untapped mineral deposits in Afghanistan, far beyond any previously known reserves and enough to fundamentally alter the Afghan economy and perhaps the Afghan war itself, according to senior American government officials. Paul Jay says that United States has known all about these minerals since 2007, why is this story just coming out now?

    I knew that had some of the best poppy's b/c of climate (?) but thought it was going through the back door... but I can see Pharmaceutical companies purchasing their opium...smile

    But I didn't know about the minerals... Makes me think about the movie "AVATAR"

    Very Spiritual community had Rare Minerals under their Sacred Tree and Aliens/Foreigners wanted them & was willing to destroy the people & their community to get the minerals...but

    SPIRITUAL POWER WAS MIGHTIER THAN PUNY MAN!!

  • p.s. btw till 1977 afganistan was a relatively stable country - USSR friendly neighbor. then the usa (kissinger) invented and sponsored the talibans. 1-2 years after they started to destabilize afganistan USSR invaded afganistan. Kissinger is very proud with his idea - it helped great deal to bankrupt the ussr. many innocent people's lives but who cares...now the pipeline was first - it was known in 1999. pity. all the politics are shit in general. just smell different but the

  • true. the reporter is a little too hyper...i don't see the link between USSR war 20-30 years ago and the story in NY times / the minerals in afganistan / the us war there / the us desire to continue the occupation forever. it is good to be informed. now i know about the minerals there - i guess he will want to talk about me next time ...

  • @Sturmpionier03 Well he started talking about Russia haha. You can't talk about the U.S. on U.S. news. Can't talk about Britain on British news.

    Don't see why it would be any different in Russia. Noam Chomsky's propaganda model at work right here.

  • @connectingdots1 how does it make Russia look bad? US are the ones who invaded

  • @theesenuttz Russia != USSR

  • If they found di-lithium crystals would Capt Kirk invade?

  • It was known before 1997. My sources,"The Grand Chessboard". A book written by "Zbigniew Brizezinsky". The neo-con, Rockefeller's right hand man and Obama,s political GURU. One must read it to know the facts of AFGHAN war.

  • @theesenuttz thumbs up to comment, thumbs down to the biased reporting

  • yep, as soon as he mentions russia, he gets his line nipped in the bud... rt is gettin' pretty dam biased
