In this video you can see how to tune a glass harp from the beginning to the end. It takes less than 10 minutes.
Anybody can do it even if they are not musicians, all you need is a chromatic tuner with built in microphone, this instrument will tell you if the pitch is too high or low, so all you do is adjust the water level until the pitch is correct.
Excuse the audio quality, I couldn't bother setting up the studio for this video.
I hope you found it interesting or useful.

  • What do you do to the recording to make it sound so much cleaner? I know the difference can't be entirely in the mics

  • @drumstyx6464 Normally I record using 4 condenser mics and a digi003 soundcard,

and mix the tracks adding some effects.

this video was shot using only a cheap digital camera. The sound is terrible but this

video is only meant to show the tuning procedure.

  • Does it take a certain glass to make a sound or something?

  • @UsagiKou1 you need glasses with stem.

the stem leaves the bowl free to vibrate

  • @UsagiKou1 Well you should have crystal glasses you can tell if its real crystal by puting some water in it and wetting your fingers and rubbing around the rim of the glass and if it gives off a sound then its real crystal

  • @FallenAngel2737 What is crystal? If you mean a mixture of silicon and lead

none of my glasses are crystal. Glasses with lead are banned in EC because lead is highly toxic. Anyway any glass with stem will resonate, but some will make a nicer sound than others. All I do is select the ones I prefer.

I don't choose the glasses by the size but the pitch the have when empty, it must be close and higher than the note they will be assigned.

They are not very expensive, max. 5 € and min. 50 cent.

  • I am not a musician and have no clue about octaves, scales etc. I am just stunned by your kindness in providing this information to those who CAN understand it. Not only are you extremely talented and play AMAZING music on a very challenging instrument, you are KIND as well. Thank you for being just exactly who you are!

  • Wow my flute is so much easier

  • How many different types of glasses make up your harp and what are they?

  • how do u make a sound of the glass

  • how many different sized glasses do you have?

  • wonderful, it's amazing

  • How much did all of these glasses cost you? And what is the range of notes?

  • people without water that watch this video (somehow) would not be happy

  • Thank you for the information. The ten glasses which don't need tuning — they must have been carefully selected for pitch, yes? Tuning a 5-octave rank of pipes seems easier. Your playing is superb.

  • Amazing sound. The tuning reminded me of Violins :D

  • I.. am... FASCINATED !!!!!!!!
