This book is an in utero introduction to the wonderful world of Dr. Seuss that my wife and I would read to our unborn child on a nightly basis.
The background to this story was my wife was put into isolation after giving birth to our son because of the sniffles. Pretty extreme, but with the H1N1 pandemic the hospital was not willing to take any chances. My wife was getting very sad and disconnected from our son during this time so she had an idea to record her voice reading the Dr. Seuss book "Oh Baby, the Places You'll Go". She wanted me to video tape his reaction to her voice and to feel connected to her baby boy despite not being allowed to see him. The charge nurse who was taking care of Lucas from the neonatal intensive care unit called me down from the isolation room where my wife was in order to help calm him down since they tried to sooth him as all attempts by them were unsuccessful. As I played the recording of his mother's voice, Lucas started to calm down and look around the room for her. The lights in the ICU were pretty bright for a preemie but it was one of the first times I had seen him open his eyes since he was born. It goes to show reading to your baby when in Utero pays off in more ways than I realized. I strongly suggest to anyone else to try this.
The conclusion to this story was my wife balled her eyes out when she saw the video after, being assured that Lucas did in fact remember her just from her voice alone.
This made me cry...he's so calm listening to mommy's voice. This is indeed beautiful.
Congrats on your new little one.
